Pay Attention

A poem

In 300 words or less create a poem or short story to, “The Words Between The Lines or The Words Between The Lies…” Inspired by Dr. Norma Gray, who is one of the five moderators over at Writer’s Way.

Being able to speak is common. A willingness to listen is rare. Having a desire to hear what someone needs to say is love.-Henery X

Pay Attention

The words between the lines

Truly define

What’s on a person’s mind

They can say one thing but mean another

So, I pay attention to the words they should say but never utter

A lack

Is a sign of a vital fact

That the average person misses

And because of the words that come before and after and that are delicious to the ears like HERSHEY’S KISSES

Sweet talkers, smooth talkers, fast talkers, and double talkers

Know that most people aren’t way with word stalkers

You know, people who do more than just hear, they listen as well

The ones who’ll call you on the tales you attempt to tell

Pay Attention

And he’ll protect your comprehension

By helping you to overstand what’s really being made mention

And if the words between the lines are missing in action

Don’t give the perpetrator the satisfaction

Of believing they’ve gotten away with such an infraction

Call them on their stuff

See how much they truly trust in their bluff

If they stutter and stammer

Drop the hammer

And don’t worry about being polite or proper grammar

Give it to them good

Let them know it’s not about saying what they think you want to hear, but about saying what they should

When y’all part ways, an understanding should be perfectly overstood

Which is that you’re better than a half ass conversation

And be sure to ensure they’ll be no misconception in your translation.

Writer’s Way is a club I started on Clubhouse. It’s a safe space where readers and writers come together and support one another. If you’re in search of a community where you’ll always leave feeling better than when you arrived, then look no further than Writer’s Way. Your Voice Matters. So, come allow it to be heard.

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge my offering. May all you deserve and desire flow abundantly into your life, as a river does into a sea.

Remember. I’m not here to convince you to believe. I’m here to offer you something else to consider.

Continue to be a lighthouse for all those who feel lost in the sea of life.

May we never lose our desire to outdo what we’ve already done.

Peace, Love, and the utmost Respect.
