Sara was thinking of quitting the soccer team she oh so loved. The reason for her thought is that she felt her presence was a hindrance to the team’s progress.

Sara and her teammate/best friend, Emily, were sitting just beyond the practice field, talking. Sara had told Emily what she was thinking of doing.

“Why did you join the team, Sara?”

“You know why, Em’.”

“I thought I knew, but this new revelation has me second guessing that thought. So, again. Why did you join the team?”

“Because I love the game.”

“What do you love about the game?”

“Could you be more specific, please?”

“Well. I love helping to get us in a position where scoring is possible. I love playing alongside you, as well as almost all of our other teammates. Kelly and June can be a bit much, but I like their energy. I love our coach. She’s arguably one of the coolest adults I know. And last, I love when we win.”

“So why on earth would you want to walk away from all that love?”

“I just feel I’m holding the team back.”

“Bestie. I say this with all sincerity. You’re one of the best players on our team. No one, and I mean no one, works as hard as you when we’re out on that field. And it's that type of energy that makes others eager to go harder. I’m always smiling when I see you in motion.”

“Really, Em’?”

“Now you know I’m not into stroking no egos. I tell it like it is. You’re my shero.”

Sara was smiling uncontrollably. “Well, you’re my shero as well. I initially wanted to play soccer because of you.”

“I never knew that, Sara.”

“Well, now you know.”

“Hey you two. Coach M’ said it’s practice time,” a young woman said. She rushed off afterwards.

Sara and Emily rose to their feet. Shortly after the fact, Sara gave Emily a hug.

“Thank you, Em’.”

“I just did what best friends are supposed to do. I love you, Sara.”

“I love you too, bestie.”

Want to leave a lasting impression on someone? Then ensure the encounter is more about them and less about you. Ask questions that will leave them talking about them-self and show a genuine interest in what’s being said.

People remember those who made them feel special.

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge my offering.

Remember. I’m not here to convince you to believe. I’m here to offer you something else to consider.

May we never lose our desire to outdo what we’ve already done.

Continue to be a lighthouse for all those who feel lost in the sea of life.

Peace, Love, and the utmost Respect.
