Real Love

A Story Consisting Of Just Dialogue

Real Love

“Hanna. You were supposed to just bake the cake, not eat it as well.”

“Marcus, being on this diet is a living hell.”

“I know, but baby. You have to be strong.”

“Strong for how long? It’s like food be singing my favorite love song.”

“You funny, Sis’.”

“But I’m serious, Marcus. When I smell food, the feeling I need to dance, I can’t resist. Steak dinners make me drool, and fried chicken, makes me lose my cool.”

“Well, it’s at these times I suggest you run in place, or take a few laps in the pool.”

“I’d rather walk to Burger King and get a combo meal because, unfortunately, a big salad doesn’t possess the same appeal.”

“Well, at least you’re keeping it real.”

“As real as I can. I dream of a turkey leg in each hand. With a platter of dressing and mac and cheese sitting before me, and I swear the said platter be saying, ‘you can’t ignore me.’”

“I see. Well, I won’t leave you be. Because love is sticking around when walking away seems more convenient. I’ll be your strength when you are weak.”

“And your strength is what I need because, more often than not, I lose my way when I follow my lead. I love you, my brother.”

“And I love you more, my child’s mother.”

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge my offering.

This was one of five offerings I wrote and submitted to a challenge of writing dialogue only, which also needed to rhyme, for the most part. We had specific topics, which were all meant to stretch our creativity beyond what we were used to. I had fun, seeing creating dialogue is among my favorite things to do as a writer.

Remember. I’m not here to convince you to believe. I’m here to offer you something else to consider.

May we never lose our desire to outdo what we’ve already done.

We shine, but we shine our brightest when we shine together.

Peace, Love, and the utmost Respect.
