Why I Believe Having A Book Is Important

Everything I have shared on this blog either appears in one of the five books in the accompanying photo, or will be a part of my other five forthcoming books. I create content with the intentions of it appearing between the pages of a book. Why is it so important for me to have so many books? To be able to make a difference long after I have physically left this plane of existence.

We exchange time and energy for memories. Everything we do becomes a memory, the second after it’s done. Some memories are bittersweet, while others are too sweet to ever be bitter. For what we have done to be remembered by more than those who know us well, it will need to be of great significance. In particular, something that will make this human experience memorable.

I write to encourage, enlighten, and entertain. My methods to accomplish my goal are short stories, articles, poetry, skits, and acronyms. My primary aim is to help others help themselves. When we can help people, they could never forget us.

Sure, I could say something uplifting to someone during a difficult moment. But what if they will need more than the moment, and I am unavailable? This is where having a book is so important. The said book will represent me in my physical absence. Of course, it can’t compare with my actual presence, but in some ways it will be better. Unlike with me, they’ll be able to spend as much time as they need to with the book. In the said time frame, not only can they read my written words, but they can analyze them as well. During this process, they could discover something they may have missed during an actual conversation.

Look how popular self-help books are. A portable therapists we can have sessions with anytime we desire, and for a one time price.

So, if you are writing to help make a positive difference in this world, do more than consider placing your words in a book. Like I always say, “There are people who will need to read our words, and some of them aren’t even born yet.”

It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations — something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own. — Katherine Patterson
